The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County’s Waste Reduction Action Team needs your help. Businesses like yours can make an impactful difference by eliminating landfill waste  and composting your food scraps and other compostable waste, rather than sending it to the landfill. Organic waste in landfills produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas, 25-100x as potent as carbon dioxide, and due to lack of oxygen, no decomposition occurs. By composting food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced, combating climate change, and improving air quality.

Composting is incredibly easy. Just like recycling, all it requires is a separate roll away bin and some clearly marked containers for staff to understand where food waste in your establishment should go.

In order to help encourage you to start composting, we, The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County’s Waste Reduction Action Team, are partnering with WasteNot and EcoProducts in a pilot composting program. The pilot program will consist of a 30% discounted composting service from WasteNot for a predetermined amount of time. Sign up for the pilot commercial program by filling out this online form before April 13. After that we will contact you and provide you with training materials, signage, and a rollaway compost bin from WasteNot.

In order to help you and your team get composting, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County’s Waste Reduction Action Team will provide you with:

  • WasteNot 32 gallon cart(s) for food scraps, certified compostable containers, and paper products. See photo below. They can be locked if desired.
  • 1X per week pickup
  • Training Webinar OR schedule a WasteNot Team Member for on-site staff training
  • Educational and Training Materials for your team
  • WasteNot promotion of your participation
  • Signage for your building
  • Resources and guidance for purchasing certified compostable products
  • Social Media and Email Marketing through EDMC to members and followers if desired
  • Press releases about the program and its participants if desired

After the composting pilot program is complete you can decide whether or not to continue your composting program with WasteNot. If you decide that starting a compost program is simple to implement and beneficial to you and the environment, you can elect to continue your service with WasteNot for $30 per 32-gallon cart 1X per week pickup. Larger containers are available upon request. Email partners@wastenotcompost.com for more information on composting service.
