Donate to our Recycling Program

The Styrofoam Recycling Program is exclusively funded and organized by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County. Your donation helps prevent styrofoam from ending up in landfills and waterways. Donations help maintain our local drop-off locations. Donations directly funds the safe collection, processing, and recycling of Styrofoam which is not accepted in curbside recycling. Styrofoam Drop Off Guidelines

We have been receiving a lot of non-recyclable and garbage items at our Styrofoam Recycling Sheds lately, particularly the Woodstock location. In order to be properly recycled, Styrofoam must be in pristine condition. Please see below:

Styrofoam can NOT have:

Tape, labels, glue, or any other materials stuck to it.
Food condiments or waste stuck to it.

If any of these contaminants are found on foam at our sheds, the foam becomes garbage. It is time consuming for our volunteers to handle contaminated foam, especially in the cold temperatures of winter.

It is also important to note that Styrofoam is different than other foam (i.e. soft foam packing blocks, foam sheets, etc.). We are unable to accept and recycle other foam products at this time.

Please ensure that any foam you drop off is clean and true Styrofoam.
