Join the Friends in learning more about the Refuge, our successes, and upcoming events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge.

Steven Byers – Chair and founding member of Friends of Hackmatack NWR. Now retired, Steve’s professional background includes serving 29 years as Field Representative for the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission. Steve also retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Colonel and Chief of Staff for the 330th Medical Brigade.

Nancy Williamson – Treasurer and founding member of Friends of Hackmatack NWR. Nancy retired from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a Watershed Manager for the C2000 Program with responsibility for northern Illinois. Nancy currently serves on the Board of the Natural Land Institute in Rockford.
