Hackmatack NWR began as a dream over 18 years ago. That dream was realized in 2012. The Friend’s role in that dream and in helping to build the Refuge will be illuminated. Join the Friends in learning more about the Refuge, our successes, and upcoming events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge.
Presenters:
Steven Byers – Chair and founding member of Friends of Hackmatack NWR. Now retired, Steve’s professional background includes serving 29 years as Field Representative for the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission. Steve also retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Colonel and Chief of Staff for the 330th Medical Brigade.
Nancy Williamson – Treasurer and founding member of Friends of Hackmatack NWR. Nancy retired from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a Watershed Manager for the C2000 Program with responsibility for northern Illinois. Nancy currently serves on the Board of the Natural Land Institute in Rockford.
This event will be hybrid, for those who are unable to attend in person. We encourage in-person attendance, and if you are unable to attend in person please considering ordering takeout from Duke’s!
Pre-registration is required for Zoom attendance, but not for in-person attendance.
Socializing begins at 5pm in-person, program begins at 6pm.

McHenry County’s Green Drinks is held on the first Wednesday of every month at Duke’s Alehouse and Kitchen in Crystal Lake. Every month features a new speaker on a topic related to environmentalism.
