SPEAKER: Carl Edstrom
In 2012, a series of encounters with a 95-year-old man in Copenhagen, Denmark inspired Ole Kassow to rent a bicycle “rickshaw” and offer to take local nursing home residents on rides through the city. The positive reaction to that first ride immediately generated more requests, and ultimately led to the founding of Cycling Without Age, a non-profit now operating around the world with more than 2700 chapters, including one right here in McHenry County.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Carl Edstrom, a member of the Cycling Without Age – McHenry County steering committee and regular “pilot,” will talk about the organization and how they use sustainable transportation, access to nature, and kindness through conversation to engage with the county’s elderly residents, lift their spirits, and provide “the right to wind in their hair.”
Socializing begins at 5pm, program begins at 6pm.
This is a hybrid event. Register below.
