Our Community Fridges

The Waste Reduction Action Team has worked hard to bring the County two community fridges! Help us tackle food waste and food insecurity by visiting our fridges at the Nippersink Library in Richmond and First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake. 

Support our community by participating in the Defenders’ Community Fridge Program. Drop off perishable items for others to take home. Our program is free to all!

Accepted food:

  • Sealed packaged foods
  • Unopened pasteurized milk & yogurt
  • Fresh eggs (with a use-by date)
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Cured meats (sealed, with a use-by date)
  • Pastries
  • Unopened fruit juice
  • Table sauces
  • Bread
  • Cheeses

Community Compost Program

DROP OFF SITE:

Near Woodstock Square
Bring all of your compostable material and do your part to help make our community more sustainable. We accept food scraps, compostable to-go food containers, and more. $3-5/monthly subscription.

Tours & Seminars

The Waste Reduction Action Team works together to bring the community educational experiences like sustainable business tours, seminars, and other events.
