Community Fridges

The Defenders advocates for waste reduction and tackling food insecurity through our new Community Fridges in the County. Our Community Fridges are located at the Nippersink Library in Richmond and First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake.

Support our community by participating in the Defenders' Community Fridge Program. Drop off perishable items for others to take home. Our program is free to all!

  • Sealed packaged foods
  • Unopened pasteurized milk & yogurt
  • Fresh eggs (with a use-by date)
  • Table sauces (salad dressing, condiments, salsa, hot sauces, etc.)
  • Cured meats (sealed, with a use-by date)
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Pastries
  • Unopened fruit juice
  • Bread
  • Cheeses

Accomplishments

Our Community Fridge Program is the first program in the County! If you know of another location to host a Community Fridge, please email us at wastereductionCL@gmail.com.

 

Goals

The Defenders hope to provide the community with opportunities to reduce waste while also helping food insecurity on a local level. We hope to expand this program to more locations throughout McHenry County so food is more accessible to community members.
