DESCRIPTION:Forward to 2040 with a Vision to 2071\nThe McHenry County Conservation District is excited to be creating a Comprehensive Conservation Plan\, titled “Forward to 2040 with a Vision to 2071” to guide the District’s path for the next 10+ years\, and create a vision for the future extending to the District’s Centennial Anniversary in 2071. The plan will help determine District priorities and where future resources will be focused. \nAs part of this planning process\, the Conservation District has enlisted Upland Design\, LTD. who bring with them a collection of experts from aQuity Research\, Engineering Resource Associates\, Dewberry\, Vetter Consulting Enterprises LLC\, and 110%. \nUpland Design and the Conservation District will be holding two Community Open Houses to gain feedback from residents and site users. We invite you to attend and share your ideas for the future of Conservation in McHenry County. The District will also be creating and issuing a statistically valid community survey that will be distributed in future months\, and will be hosting pop-up events and other ways for site users to share their ideas throughout the creation of this plan. \nAttend an Open House\nJoin us at one of the following COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSES to learn about the planning process and share your thoughts. DESCRIPTION:ACCEPTED MATERIALS AT DEFENDERS RECYCLING DRIVES \nBatteries‒ Household (A\, C\, D\, AA\, AAA\, Lithium\, Ni-Cad\, Button and NI-MH) are accepted for $1.00 per pound\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled. Lead batteries (car\, motorcycle\, sump pump\, marine) are accepted at no charge. \nFluorescent Light Bulbs–The following are accepted for a fee\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled:4-foot\, $.50 each; 8-foot\, $1.00 each; Compact fluorescent and LED bulbs used in lamps and lighting fixtures\, $.50 each \nPacking Peanuts that are clean\, dry\, in a box or bag\, are accepted \nSolid Styrofoam is accepted at no charge providing it is clean\, with no glue\, tape\, food or anything else attached to it.  Soft material that bends and is generally used in packaging is not accepted.  If it has a smooth cover (usually blue or pink in color) on it\, it is not accepted. \nTextiles–Clothes\, blankets\, towels\, shoes\, etc.\, with holes\, worn out\, torn\, accepted at no charge\, BUT they must be clean.

DESCRIPTION:Every year the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County teams up with the McHenry County Department of Health to put on several recycling events throughout the year. \nAt this event there will be: \nElectronics Recycling \nDocument Shredding \nStyrofoam\, textiles\, light bulbs($)\, batteries($) \n \nElgin Recycling will be accepting the following electronic devices:\n• Televisions & Computer Monitors ($) Credit cards and cash will be accepted onsite.\n• Computers & Small Scale Servers\n• Printers\, FAX Machines and Scanners\n• DVD Players\, DVD Recorders and VCR’s\n• Video Game Consoles\n• Digital Converter Boxes\, Cable and Satellite Receivers\n• Electronic Keyboards\, Electronic Mice and Portable Digital Music Players \nFees for TVs and Monitors:\n$15 for any size LCD monitor\n$25 for all other units up to 20 inches\n$35 for all other units 21 inches and Larger \nIf you are unable to attend one of the collection event dates\, Elgin Recycling has a permanent site at 5114 E Terra Cotta (Route176) in Crystal Lake (Across from Country Side Flower Shop).\nOpen Monday- Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm.\nFor additional information or questions regarding electronics recycling please visit\nElgin Recycling’s website at www.elginrecycling.com or contact them at 847-741-4100.\nElgin Recycling will no longer be accepting any type of batteries at the events\, but will continue to accept them at their Crystal Lake location. \n \nPaper Tiger Document Solutions will have their shred truck onsite to securely shred your sensitive paper documents.\nPlease remember these important tips for quick shredding:\n1. The shredder can only take paper. No CD’s or thumb drives.\n2. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.\n3. Binder clips\, three ring binders and the like Need To Be Removed prior to shredding. Please do so before attending the event.\n4. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with McHenry County College Sustainability Center\, The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County’s Education Action Team will be showing Thirst for Justice as part of their quarterly Green Screen film series. The showing is free and will take place Monday\, April 25 at the McHenry County College Luecht Auditorium at 7pm. Doors will open at 6:30pm. \nThe film is the story of two communities who enlisted the help of scientists to prove their water had become dangerously contaminated. The movie is one hour and ten minutes long\,and will be followed by discussion of lead service line replacement legislation led by Iyana Simba\, City Programs Director\, Illinois Environmental Council.
