SUMMARY:Soul Jam at Soulful Prairies with Defenders and MCCD as Beneficiaries
DESCRIPTION:Soul Jam takes many of the things we are passionate about and rolls them into one event. A day of good music\, good people and always supporting a good cause.\n\nEach year we choose a different local cause as the recipient of our proceeds. We offer a nice line up of about ten local bands some of whom we hire and some of whom donate their time. Food is available for sale and people are also allowed to bring coolers of food and beverages. Groups of people set up chairs and tables on the lawn and settle in to enjoy the day. Wandering the farm and meeting the animals\, and catching up with friends are among a few of the possibilities. \n\n \nThis year\, The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County\, the McHenry County Conservation District and Good Food Pantry will be the beneficiaries this year! \n‍Environmental Defenders & McHenry County Conservation District\nFounded in 1970\, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a grass-roots organization dedicated to preserving\, protecting and educating about the environment. Learn more about this organization. \nFounded in 1971\, McHenry County Conservation District protects over 25\,750 acres of open space that support thriving native plants and wildlife populations\, diverse outdoor recreation\, and a myriad of educational and immersive experiences. Learn more about this organization. \nGood Food Pantry\nThe Good Food Pantry was established in 2022 in memory of David Gooding\, a long-time resident of Park Ridge\, IL\, who worked in the food industry his entire career. His family began the pantry to help the less fortunate members of the local communities who are struggling with food insecurity. GFP utilizes social media to collect non-perishable food based on what is low on local food pantries shelves to make sure individuals and families are getting the type of food that they need.

SUMMARY:BMP: Now is the Time to use SmartSalt Practices
DESCRIPTION:The excessive use of roadsalt for deicing in winter\, particularly on parking lots and sidewalks\, is polluting the drinking water we all rely on for life and economic opportunity. Fortunately\, with Salt Smart practices we can maintain safety while eliminating the excess application of salt that is commonly used today.\n\nRingers Landscaping produces their own liquid brine that is applied to pavements before a snowstorm using a practice called “anti-icing”. The liquid brine prevents ice from forming\, which improves the contractors ability to remove snow and effectively maintain bare pavement while only applying a fraction of the salt used in more conventional practices.\n\nWe will also learn about the new Salt Smart Training and Certification program that has been developed by the Conservation Foundation for the state of Illinois. This exciting new training and certification program is designed to help successfully implement Salt Smart practices into your business\, facility\, or community. The time to start using Smart Salting practices is now and the new Salt Smart Training and Certification program will help you every step of the way.\nThis program will start with a guided tour of the Ringers Landscaping facility\, including demonstrations on how their brine is made\, stored\, and used on parking lots and sidewalks.\n\nIt will showcase how Ringers Landscaping\, a local business\, has successfully and profitably integrated Salt Smart practices into their winter operations and business model.\n\nSign up to attend here: https://tinyurl.com/BMPTourSignup
