This event is dedicated to raising funds for the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County. From February 23\, 2025 at 8:00am to March 9\, 2025 at 8:00pm\, we will host the online auction. There will also be two 50/50 raffles (one online and one in-person) and a bag raffle at the annual meeting. \nTo make this auction a success\, we are seeking donations of items\, services\, or experiences to include in the auction catalog. Contributions from generous individuals\, organizations and businesses are essential to help us reach our fundraising goals and create a meaningful impact. \nAll donors will be recognized during the event and through our promotional materials\, reaching a wide audience of environmentally conscious individuals and businesses. Your support not only aids an important cause\, but also highlights your commitment to sustainability and community involvement. \nIf you’re interested in contributing\, please provide us with the descriptions and/or photos  of the services or consumables. DESCRIPTION:Jen Walling\, Executive Director of the Illinois Environmental Council\, will be present to speak to us about the legislative priorities for the 2025 session of the Illinois Legislature on the environmental front. She will highlight the bills being proposed concerning: Clean Water\, Energy\, Conservation\, Sustainable Agriculture\, Zero Waste and Equitable Transportation. The bills are a compilation of the work of IEC staff and over 100 affiliated environmental groups and individuals throughout Illinois. Jen Walling has served as the Executive Director for the Illinois Environmental Council since January 2011\, where she oversees the strategic direction and management of the organization and lobbies decision-makers on environmental issues. Jen is dedicated to building the power of Illinois’ environmental community to secure policy outcomes that protect the environment.

DESCRIPTION:Every year the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County teams up with the McHenry County Department of Health to put on several recycling events throughout the year. \nAt this event there will be: \nElectronics Recycling \nDocument Shredding \nStyrofoam\, textiles\, light bulbs($)\, batteries($) \n \nElgin Recycling will be accepting the following electronic devices:\n• Televisions & Computer Monitors ($) Credit cards and cash will be accepted onsite.\n• Computers & Small Scale Servers\n• Printers\, FAX Machines and Scanners\n• DVD Players\, DVD Recorders and VCR’s\n• Video Game Consoles\n• Digital Converter Boxes\, Cable and Satellite Receivers\n• Electronic Keyboards\, Electronic Mice and Portable Digital Music Players \nFees for TVs and Monitors:\n$15 for any size LCD monitor\n$25 for all other units up to 20 inches\n$35 for all other units 21 inches and Larger \nIf you are unable to attend one of the collection event dates\, Elgin Recycling has a permanent site at 5114 E Terra Cotta (Route176) in Crystal Lake (Across from Country Side Flower Shop).\nOpen Monday- Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm.\nFor additional information or questions regarding electronics recycling please visit\nElgin Recycling’s website at www.elginrecycling.com or contact them at 847-741-4100.\nElgin Recycling will no longer be accepting any type of batteries at the events\, but will continue to accept them at their Crystal Lake location. \n \nPaper Tiger Document Solutions will have their shred truck onsite to securely shred your sensitive paper documents.\nPlease remember these important tips for quick shredding:\n1. The shredder can only take paper. No CD’s or thumb drives.\n2. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.\n3. Binder clips\, three ring binders and the like Need To Be Removed prior to shredding. Please do so before attending the event.\n4. Participants need to take back empty bags or boxes. \n \nThe Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will be onsite collecting \nBatteries‒ Household (A\, C\, D\, AA\, AAA\, Lithium\, Ni-Cad\, Button and NI-MH) are accepted for $1.00 per pound\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled. Lead batteries (car\, motorcycle\, sump pump\, marine) are accepted at no charge. \nFluorescent Light Bulbs–The following are accepted for a fee\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled: \n4-foot\, $.50 each; \n8-foot\, $1.00 each; \nCompact bulbs used in lamps and lighting fixtures\, $.50 each \nPacking Peanuts that are clean\, dry\, in a box or bag\, are accepted. \nSolid Styrofoam is accepted at no charge providing it is clean\, with no glue\, tape\, food or anything else attached to it.  Soft material that bends and is generally used in packaging is not accepted.  If it has a smooth cover (usually blue or pink in color) on it\, it is not accepted. \nTextiles–Clothes\, blankets\, towels\, shoes\, etc.\, with holes\, worn out\, torn\, accepted at no charge\, BUT they must be clean. \nFor additional information or questions regarding the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County please contact us at 815-338-0393.

It will be located at the Algonquin Township Road District Building B Garage. \nThere will be a members-only preview sale Friday\, September 20 6-8pm. If you are not an Environmental Defenders’ member but would like to participate in the pre-sale\, you will be able to join on site at a special membership price of $20 for a year’s membership\, and gain access to the pre-sale. The sale begins Saturday\, September 21 9am-4pm\, and continues running from 10am-4pm through Saturday\, October 5. It will be closed on Sundays. DESCRIPTION:Every year the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County teams up with the McHenry County Department of Health to put on several recycling events throughout the year. \nAt this event there will be: \nElectronics Recycling \nStyrofoam\, textiles\, light bulbs($)\, batteries($) \n \nElgin Recycling will be accepting the following electronic devices:\n• Televisions & Computer Monitors ($) Credit cards and cash will be accepted onsite.\n• Computers & Small Scale Servers\n• Printers\, FAX Machines and Scanners\n• DVD Players\, DVD Recorders and VCR’s\n• Video Game Consoles\n• Digital Converter Boxes\, Cable and Satellite Receivers\n• Electronic Keyboards\, Electronic Mice and Portable Digital Music Players \nFees for TVs and Monitors:\n$15 for any size LCD monitor\n$25 for all other units up to 20 inches\n$35 for all other units 21 inches and Larger \nIf you are unable to attend one of the collection event dates\, Elgin Recycling has a permanent site at 5114 E Terra Cotta (Route176) in Crystal Lake (Across from Country Side Flower Shop).\nOpen Monday- Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm.\nFor additional information or questions regarding electronics recycling please visit\nElgin Recycling’s website at www.elginrecycling.com or contact them at 847-741-4100.\nElgin Recycling will no longer be accepting any type of batteries at the events\, but will continue to accept them at their Crystal Lake location. \n \nBatteries‒ Household (A\, C\, D\, AA\, AAA\, Lithium\, Ni-Cad\, Button and NI-MH) are accepted for $1.00 per pound\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled. Lead batteries (car\, motorcycle\, sump pump\, marine) are accepted at no charge. \nFluorescent Light Bulbs–The following are accepted for a fee\, which only covers our costs to get them recycled: \n4-foot\, $.50 each; \n8-foot\, $1.00 each; \nCompact bulbs used in lamps and lighting fixtures\, $.50 each \nPacking Peanuts that are clean\, dry\, in a box or bag\, are accepted. \nSolid Styrofoam is accepted at no charge providing it is clean\, with no glue\, tape\, food or anything else attached to it.  Soft material that bends and is generally used in packaging is not accepted.  If it has a smooth cover (usually blue or pink in color) on it\, it is not accepted. \nTextiles–Clothes\, blankets\, towels\, shoes\, etc.\, with holes\, worn out\, torn\, accepted at no charge\, BUT they must be clean. \nFor additional information or questions regarding the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County please contact us at 815-338-0393.

Jeffrey is also skilled in property drainage management and solutions that can help preserve our water for use by future generations. Mr. Rausch has training through the Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute and the National Association of Landscaping Professionals.\n\n\n\n\nThis event will be hybrid\, for those who are unable to attend in person. DESCRIPTION:The McHenry County Fair will soon be here from July 30 – August 4. The Defenders have a great spot this year to share our message with the public in Building C with several tables of displays and air conditioning!!.  We need your help to spread our environmental message to residents. This is the best opportunity to reach ordinary families! We need your help to be effective during the fair. Please sign up for as many slots as you are interested in. \nThe Fair is not offering free tickets. The cost of a weekly pass is $30\, a one day adult ticket is $10\, but for seniors 60+ a one day ticket is only $5. Please be prepared to buy your own ticket for your volunteer days\, or contact Pat Lawlor if you prefer to be reimbursed by the Defenders.
