A Home of Our
Own
The Defenders are considering several
options this year.
The first is to fulfill our vision of
building a state-of-the-art green building on the property we own on Dean
Street in Woodstock. We have worked with Design Coalition to plan a new
facility to house our offices, educational work, and resale shop. Originally
designed to also house our recycling center, we will need to rework the

"The Defenders offer programs and activities which
promote sustainable land use, energy and natural resource conservation
and pollution prevention. We advocate policies, which protect our
groundwater and high quality streams and wetlands. We demonstrate waste
reduction through a recycling facility and reuse center in Woodstock
with drop off locations elsewhere in the county and a commercial pick-up
service. We encourage natural resource protection through planting
native vegetation on various public lands and promoting natural
landscaping. The Defenders takes positions on a variety of local
government issues, supplies experts and concerned citizens to testify
before public bodies, and often leads the way for positive changes for
the environment." .

A second possibility is to purchase and rehab an
existing building. The New
Home Committee and the Board of Directors are following up on the details.
